Background

Zoe is a full time lecturer for the BSc (Hons) Oral Health Sciences programme, based within the Edinburgh Dental Institute.

Having graduated with a first class honours degree from the same programme in 2013, Zoe has continued to be closely involved with the development of the programme.

As well as lecturing Zoe is a clinical supervisor and course lead.

In the past Zoe has acted as external examiner for the Diploma in Paediatric Dentistry for Dental Therapists (RCSEd).

Zoe completed her PhD in 2023 which looked at the oral hygiene habits of the ageing population. This research highlighted the evolving experiences and perspectives of independently-living older adults caring for their natural teeth and emphasized the importance of the dental hygiene-therapist in their care.

Awards and interests

Zoe was awarded the medal for academic excellence for her undergraduate degree.  In 2017, Zoe successfully gained her Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Edinburgh.

Zoe was awarded her Dentistry PhD in Oral hygiene practice; the experiences and perspectives of older adults on 8th July 2023.

Her interests include gerodontology, education and in particular the use of qualitative methodologies (grounded theory) in dental research.
